'The Fall' - Live Radio Performance, by Anne-Marie Helder
_______________________________________________________
This is a rare and unique solo performance of ‘The Fall’, featuring vocals and guitar by Anne-Marie Helder - live on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.
‘The Fall’ is a song by PANIC ROOM - the Award-Winning British band, of which Anne-Marie is lead singer / songwriter.
One of PANIC ROOM’s most popular and moving tracks, ’The Fall’ is from their 2010 album ’Satellite’.
(see link below)
Anne-Marie chose to perform this song in a completely unique & stripped-back way - for the first time ever - during this live radio show on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.
As a special guest on the Sue Marchant Show, Anne-Marie was also interviewed about her work with Panic Room, and her solo career.
'The Fall’ is an extremely poignant song, which deals with the feelings of watching someone you love suffer through illness, admiring their strength and bravery, and yet wishing you could take away their pain.
This live radio version is raw, intimate, and completely unique.
Recorded in November 2011 @ BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

Sure as you walk across the room, dignified and proud
I watch your spirit shine, and see you laugh out loud...
& People gather near to hang on words you say
The wisdom and the joy; the love you give away
I watch you in your element; I wouldn’t even know
For in your smiling face, there’s nothing there to show
The battle that you wage, the silent war inside
The pain you’re going through, & all you want to hide
I know where you are ~ you’re somewhere lost inside
Running from the tide, running for your life...
*
The evening closes in, c’mon it’s time to go
Your tiredness is deep & starting now to show
The hollows of your eyes, the aching in your bones
are telling me the time - I won’t leave you alone
But now, oh my love, the hurting has begun
Let me be the one, let me be the one
To feel all your pain, & take it all away
I wanna take it all, wanna take the fall....
(CH)
For you, I know, I would do anything
To set you free, to live and to breathe
Oh yes I know, I would do anything
Just to take it all... just to take the fall.
*
The dimming of the light, you play your favourite song
I sometimes wonder now if you knew along?
I’ll be here everyday, until the noise has gone
Until the hurt subsides, until your peace has come...
Until then, my love, I’ll give you everything
I only have one wish... that I could give you wings
To fly far away to where your future calls
I wanna take it all, wanna take the fall.....
For you, I know, I would do anything
To set you free, to live and to breathe
Oh yes I know, I would do anything
Just to take it all... just to take the fall...
Panic Room is one of the best bands out there led by the incredibly talented Anne Marie Helder and fantastic musicians. Its a shame they haven't obtained the popularity they deserve. Please come tour the US! Richard Fox
This song has haunted me in its various versions since Duran Duran first recorded it. This is the best cover BY FAR, indeed as others say, this may be the very best version. That voice of Rachel's and Jon's keyboards...then that guitar...what's not to love? Mike Ashton
